Spouses are best friends. They share all types of relations, hopes, dreams, and ideas with one another. However, once married that does not mean that all sense of privacy is gone. Some couples continue to find it awkward and even difficult to carry out some normally private activities around each other.
I can remember many years ago when I was still in school going on a retreat with a group. One of the chaperones, who was a very tidy and always “fixed up” lady, had commented on how her husband had never seen her without make-up.
Yes, this may be taking it a little too extreme. However, there are many wives and husbands that prefer privacy when it comes to certain tasks. This uncomfortable feeling usually lets up a little the longer that a couple has been married. However, newlyweds may find it very troublesome to share so much with one another.
It may take time to feel comfortable with each other during certain daily activities.
Some tasks that couples may find hard to do in front of one another include dressing or undressing. This can be really difficult for those body conscious persons.
Other activities include using the restroom, passing gas, and even eating.
I have heard of couples that do not want each other to see them brush or floss their teeth.
Some women do not like to cut their toenails or groom themselves in front of their mate.
Couples may prefer for their mate to not see them in a sick state, especially if an upset stomach is involved.
I think that most of these bouts of embarrassment pass with time. We should feel completely comfortable around our mate. Many of these uncomfortable feelings come from the desire to always look sexy and attractive around one another. However with true love, you will always look attractive to your mate no matter what.
