Maybe you have seen the recent headline that women do many things better than men. Is that true?
Well several studies have apparently come up with 12 things that women do better than men. Take a look and see what you think:
We are cleaner
We interview better
We evolve hotter (which means we are getting better looking while men are staying the same)
We are more likely to survive a car accident
We are better at talking through our problems (seeking comfort)
We are less likely to lose our job during a recession
We are more likely to graduate from college
We tend to eat healthier
Our immune systems are stronger
We live longer
We are better managers
We do a better job at investing
As I look at this list and compare my husband to myself, I’m not entirely convinced this is true. I suppose when you are looking at statistics (such as car accidents), you can’t really argue with it.
But…I think the general message that is being sent is wrong. Let me explain why.
I don’t know if you have noticed but in the past several years, men have been getting portrayed in a negative light more and more. This negativity of men is seen not only in movies but in many television shows, especially sitcoms.
They are often portrayed as being incompetent and dumb. They think about one thing only. They don’t have a clue on how to raise children. These are the messages we are receiving.
So when we come out with a headline that women can do all of these things better, we are only adding fuel to the fire. And in looking over this list, I would have to say that my husband is better than me in several areas.
Men and women are different. We come with strengths and weaknesses. But we also complement one another.
There are some things men do better and some that women do better. But this isn’t supposed to be a competition.
