What You Can Find at the Goodwill In January

pattern As I mentioned in yesterday’s post, January is a great time for bargain hunting at the Goodwill. We decided to check them out last night, and here is what we found.

There were a lot of new books, so I was able to pick up four interesting ones that were on my list. There were several others available, as well as music CDs and a couple of video games.

There were some new toys, although not as many as I would have expected there to be in January. I picked up a National Geographic science kit that was still sealed in the box and a bunch of preschool puzzles.

There were a few new clothing items for women. The pickings were a bit slim here, but I did wind up finding a name brand shirt that will go well with a pair of pants I have been trying to match. I did better looking at off season clothing, such as summer wear than I did with winter items.

I found a beautiful summer skirt. It had a small stain that I knew I could probably get out. Usually they will discount for stains, but the cashier refused, saying that the item will be sent to the outlet. I decided to pass on it, since I was on the fence about getting it anyway.

Last week, my husband scored some great button down shirts for work. He was hoping to find some pants, too, but we ran out of time during that earlier trip. My husband took a good look yesterday, but he couldn’t find anything suitable. He did find a table top fountain, though, which he plans on using for its parts parts.

With the lack of new clothing that I expected to be there, I wonder if many people have turned to selling their used items, especially name brand clothing, instead of donating it.

There were some new Christmas and other holiday decorations available, but not as many as there were on the floor before the holidays.

There were a ton of fancy formal dresses, such as you might use for a prom or a holiday party. In fact, the rack was overflowing. You could probably stage a “27 Dresses” wedding without too much of an effort.

There was a lot of big furniture, such as formal hutches, dressers and bookcases.

Have you been shopping at Goodwill lately? If so, what are your finds?
