Whatever Happened To…

You loved (or hated) their characters on long running series like “Full House,” “Ally McBeal,” and “Frasier,” but since their shows went off the air what has become of John Stamos, Clasita Flockhart, and John Mahoney? Tune into the new TV season this fall and you’ll find out.

John Stamos is moving on from his post “Full House” series, “Jake in Progress” (which was left off of ABC’s fall schedule), to accept a full time spot on NBC’s “ER.” Stamos will become a regular on the medical drama as it begins its 13th season in September. Network executives say Stamos will resume his previous guest role (from last season) as Tony Gates, a clever paramedic and medical student.

Coincidentally, joining Stamos on the long running NBC drama series is another NBC vet, John Mahoney. You’ll remember Mahoney played Kelsey Grammer’s curmudgeonly, yet lovable father Martin Crane in the multi-Emmy Award-winning show “Frasier.” Since the popular comedy wrapped Mahoney has been busy doing theater work. But come September he will join Stamos on “ER” playing (believe it or not) a drag queen who wants to assume legal authority for his dying partner’s medical care. I haven’t watched “ER” in about two years, but the additions of Stamos and Mahoney will no doubt have me if not tuning in on Thursday, at least taping the show to enjoy later.

Calista Flockhart… when was the last time you heard that name? The former “Ally McBeal” star says she is ready to get back to work after spending the last five years at home with boyfriend Harrison Ford and her 5-year-old adopted son. Flockhart will return to primetime this fall as a right-wing radio host turned pundit in the new ABC drama “Brothers and Sisters.” The show will also co-star Sally Field and Rachel Griffiths.

“I really want to go back to work. It just seemed like the perfect time and the perfect project,” Flockhart told the Television Critics Association’s summer meeting this week.

Flockhart went on to say that she the show was exactly what she was holding out for. Not only would it give her the chance to work with “an ensemble cast of top actors,” but also she said that by not having to “carry the show” she would have more time to spend with her son.
