It’s not that I’m jealous of other moms who are better organized than I am (okay maybe just a little bit) but I sometimes wonder how they do it. Especially moms who have more than one kid and manage to keep themselves and their kids together. I have one child and frankly at times I can’t do a simple thing like keep my purse organized.
Really. Before I became a mom I swear I was more together. And although I manage fairly well in some aspects of my life I can’t seem to tame that darn purse. I keep changing- buying bigger ones, smaller ones, ones with more compartments, ones with less compartments but nothing seems to work. Yesterday when I was at the doctor, the receptionist said to me, “That’s a tight purse.” I consulted my hip language dictionary and found that tight meant she liked it. Sure it’s a nice purse on the outside. It looks like real leather but of course it’s not. Little did she know what evil lurked inside of this tight purse.
Every few days I have to dump the contents out and start over again in hopes of staying organized. Just now I decided to dump it out and here’s what I found:
3 different checkbooks- two from the same bank.
My wallet
Tyler’s wallet
An extra pair of glasses
4 perfume samples from Dillards
A phone number scribbled on a tiny piece of paper with 6 AM written and underlined (don’t know what that’s about!)
2 scrunched up paper towels
A bottle of perfumed body oil
About three dozen receipts
A LARGE bottle of Tums
A bottle of extra strength Tylenol
An extra set of keys
1 lone earring
66 cents in change
My blood pressure and cholesterol medication
2 hotel-sized bottles of lotion
A notebook crammed with “stuff” bursting at the seams
Tyler’s child support checks that I have been trying to locate for two weeks
2 forks
An extra hotel key
My press pass
2 (old?) batteries
Wait, another 1.75 in change!
My business cards
Stamps
3 of Tyler’s small action figures
An apple
A mini bag of Sun Chips
I half-expected to find a Partridge in a Pear Tree! The thing is this particular purse is not very big yet I kept cramming stuff inside. I normally have more of Tyler’s stuff in my purse also- gum, toys, snacks, etc. No matter how hard I try I can’t tame this beast.
I’ve rationalized that the reason I can’t get my purse under control is I simply don’t have time. I’m a busy mom and keeping my purse clean is low on my priorities. Yesterday when I had a few extra minutes I could have attempted to tame the beast. Instead I decided to take my son to the park and play catch with him. It’s all about priorities. Tell me, what’s in your purse?
