Even those who are brand new to genealogy have heard of Ancestry.com. It is one of the most popular genealogy websites out there. This is a website that requires you to purchase a membership in order to access its resources. Ancestry.com frequently updates and adds to their collections. Here is what’s new at Ancestry.com this week.
Today, July 13, 2012, Ancestry.com noted an issue that affects genealogists who are Mac users. The announcement says that they are aware that there are some “temporary online issues” happening with Family Tree Maker for Mac.
This problem is affecting all versions of the software. They want you to know that they are aware of this issue, and are “working hard to resolve the issue as quickly as possible”. The issue is not affecting the Family Tree Maker software for PC at all.
The Ancestry.com blog often writes up little posts about celebrities that recently passed away. Last week, they wrote about Andy Griffith, and includes interesting photos and screenshots of documents into the blog. This week, they have a post about Ernest Borgnine. The title is: “Ernest Borgnine: Do They Make ’em Like That Anymore?” The post features images from documents that involve the actor, including some from his military career.
There is an update to the Ancestry.com 1940 Census Indexes project. They have added fifteen states to the list of states that genealogists can search through. This brings the total to 26 states, and means that the project is 55% complete. They have a post on their blog that points out several celebrities that they found by searching through the newly released data.
There will be two Ancestry.com LIVE events via Livestream next week. One is called “Finding Original Records”. It will begin on July 17, 2012 at 1:00 in the afternoon, and will end at 2:00 in the afternoon, EDT.
The other one is called “Citing Your Sources Can Be Fun!” This one will be on July 19, 2012. It will begin at 1:00 in the afternoon, and will end at 2:00 in the afternoon, EDT. There are more Ancestry.com LIVE events that are planned to happen in the next few weeks.
There have been a lot of new collections added to Ancestry.com in the past few days. These collections include records from Gakicia, Ukraine, from Belarius, from the Jewish Welfare Board, from Galveston, Texas, from the New York Hebrew Sheltering Guardian Society Records, the New York Hebrew Infant Asylum Records, records from Kansas, and the much more!
