What’s New at Ancestry.com? – Week of July 21, 2012

green leaves Ancestry.com is one of the most popular genealogy websites. Most of the genealogists that I know personally have memberships with Ancestry.com. One of the great things about Ancestry.com is that they add more to their collections and resources fairly often. Here is what’s new at Ancestry.com this week.

This week, Ancestry.com posted a blog that was written by Nick Cifuentes. The blog is called “Using DNA To Trace Michelle Obama’s Past”. He mentions the book “American Tapestry: The Story of the Black, White, and Multiracial Ancestors of Michelle Obama”, and talks about how DNA testing was used identify more living relatives of Michelle Obama who may not have been aware they were part of the same family tree.

On July 19, 2012, Ancestry.com posted a blog that will make genealogists who use Mac computers a little less stressed out. The blog is an announcement that the internet connection issues that have been causing problems for genealogists who are using Family Tree Maker for Mac have been resolved.

There are detailed instructions in their blog that will walk you through what you need to do in order to get around the issues. However, according to the comments left on that blog, it appears that this fix isn’t helping everyone. There is a chance that it could work for you, though.

Ancestry.com LIVE will have two live videos in the next week. “Exploring Rootsweb” will start at 1:00 in the afternoon, and end at 2:00 in the afternoon, EDT on July 24, 2012. On July 26, 2012, there will be one called “Introduction to Land Records”. It will begin at 1:00 in the afternoon, and end at 2:00 in the afternoon, EDT.

Ancestry.com also has added several new collections on July 16, 2012.
