Sometimes it seems like no matter how clean your house is there are still those lingering odors. You know the ones I’m talking about, you walk in the house and you smell something off, you can’t find it, but you know it’s there. Or you open the freezer and the smell hits you.
A lot of the time you can find the source of the odor and get rid of it, sometimes you can’t. If you can’t find the odor open the windows and try airing out the house, many times that will work. If these things don’t help there are all natural ways to freshen up your home.
Orange, lemon or lime peels thrown down the garbage disposal will help prevent that from being the source of the unidentified odor.
If the freezer is the problem, put some vanilla on a cotton ball and wipe the inside of the freezer. Vinegar and water can be used to wipe down the shelves and walls in the refrigerator to keep that smelling fresh.
If your car has an odor problem drop one of those wax melts for candle warmers in a cup holder or other inconspicuous place to keep the car from smelling like three day old French fries. Baking soda sprinkled on the carpet of your home or car and left for several hours then vacuumed up with improve the smell of the room or car.
Keep your kitchen trash can clean and sprinkle a little baking soda in the bag when you first put it in the can, this will help absorb odors. If you think the dishwasher may be the source of the problem run it through a full cycle with two cups of vinegar instead of detergent. I splash a little vinegar in with every load I run and it keeps the dishwasher from smelling.
Usually these things will help freshen your house, especially when it’s been closed up in the colder months but nothing freshens and deodorizes your home like fresh air and sunshine so open the windows as often as possible.
