Reading Traci’s recent blog about how everything can change just when you think you’re getting a handle on this home business and family thing, it got me to thinking about that old interview chestnut question, “What’s the most challenging or difficult thing you’ve ever faced at work?” I can honestly say that there hasn’t been any traditional job related issue or challenge that anywhere compares to raising a family as a single parent, trying to build a business and all the daily grind and gristle that goes along with that! I thought it might be interesting to explore here with other home-business folk, What IS the most challenging or difficult thing you’ve had to face in your home business?
Income-related issues and challenges might top some of our lists–losing key clients or customers or not getting expected payments and then having to wrangle and wrestle in order to extract revenue or income. Many of us also might talk about the clash of work and family–ill family members (as in Traci’s case), an older adult who needed care, an injury or maybe just some of the common, daily crisis that come with running a business and working from home.
I know that some of us have had to deal with major acts of nature–storms, floods, fires, or other things that destroyed our homes and businesses at the same time. There are so many ways a person’s life can be challenged if he or she works and lives in the same place! There are so many insecurities and uncertainties that come with running a home business–even if you do have a spouse’s income to help keep things on track when things do get unpredictable.
Are you willing to share? If you were sitting in an interview and asked “What’s the most difficult thing you’ve faced in your home business?” would you have a story to tell? Or a dozen stories to tell?
