There are two songs that always make me teary when I hear them. The first is “I Wonder When He Comes Again,” as found in the Children’s Song Book for Primary. As I listen to the words, I think about the Savior’s Second Coming and contemplate the questions asked in the lyrics. What time of year will it be? Will the stars in the heavens shine brighter? And, most importantly, what will my relationship with Him be on that day?
The other song is currently being played on the radio. It’s called “I Can Only Imagine,” and it’s sung by Mercy Me. It’s a grown-up’s version of the Primary song, but asks the same questions—how will we react when the Savior reappears? The song asks, “Will I dance for you, Jesus, or in awe of you be still?” and “Will I sing halleluiah? Will I be able to speak at all?”
The reappearance of the Savior is something we all look forward to. We know that it will occur after a time of great trial and suffering on the earth, and He will come and deliver us from our hardships. But we will also be glad to see Him because He is our Elder Brother and we love Him.
I don’t think any of us can predict how we will react when we see the Savior again. I would guess that even those who have lived an honest life and can stand confidently before Him will, in fact, not be standing, but kneeling in absolute worship. As one of the most powerful lines in another favorite song, “O Holy Night,” reads, “Fall on your knees.” I believe that all of us, wicked and righteous, will recognize His absolute might and power and we will be moved to the ground.
How I look forward to the day when our Savior returns and we shall see Him for ourselves. It will be a wonderful, magnificent day, and I only hope that I can become worthy and remain that way so that I might be found in His crown when He makes up His jewels.
