Do you ever find that when you think you are getting into a “groove” you are actually losing sight of what is really going on? I find that there are times in my home business when I actually become so detached or are operating from rote so that I am not noticing subtleties or other details that are really going down in my work. For me, it is at such times that I need to force myself to tune in, slow down, and take notice of what is really going on around me.
I know that just the opposite can be true too–we can get so hung up on the minutia and the tiniest of details that we do not see the big picture or get into a manageable routine with our home businesses, but if you have been at things for a while, you may find that you get so into the daily routine and efficiencies that you really are not paying attention to what is actually going on in real time.
When in doubt, pay attention to what is happening–what are your customers and clients saying? Have their buying habits or purchases changed? What is going on in the local economy and the larger economy? Are politics affecting your business? How are you reacting to requests and changes in your business (resistance, ignoring, etc.?) Are there changes in your home and family life that are affecting your home business operations? Even seemingly small things like a slowing computer or an excess of e-mail spam in your inbox can be something that you need to tend to before it becomes a larger and more consuming problem.
If you feel as though you are losing touch a bit with your business specifics, slow things down and try to take notice of what is going on–it may help you to get back in focus and reenergize your business operations.
