Many of us start our business for a specific reason–we feel inspired and motivated by someone or something and after getting our courage up we embark on our won. Over time, however, the reason we started our business may not be enough–our lives change and our inspirations might change too. This can make it challenging to stay motivated or might take our home businesses in a new direction.
Change is inevitable and we certainly cannot expect things to stay the same forever. Some people might start their home business when their children are very young or they are new parents and they may be very motivated by that experience. As children grow, and we get older, our lives and interests change and we might find we aren’t as motivated by what we once were. This is okay and perfectly natural. The trouble comes when we have to figure out whether to change our businesses to fit our lives, or continue doing what we have lost our inspiration and passion for.
Some individuals go through a bit of a crisis–and need to give themselves time and space to decide what is right for their changing life. Sometimes, there might be personal or family health issues, a job offer, money issues, or changes in the family that put pressure on the home business owner to make changes too. I think if we anticipate and expect that we will change over time, as will those things that inspire and motivate us, we can be better prepared to weather and adjust our home businesses to fit our personal life changes. It might mean an expansion or a taking our businesses in a different direction–but the one thing we can be absolutely sure of is that life brings changes and this means to our home businesses too.
