When it is Time for a Vacation

Okay, I will admit it: Lately I’ve been feeling a bit overwhelmed.

I have taken on numerous tasks that, while beneficial to myself and to my company, are also piling up on my shoulders like heavy bricks. I’m beginning to feel quite bogged down.

For one thing, I have a lot of jobs right now. Most are in the latter stages of completion, but getting them there-in limited amounts of working time since I also stay at home with my two young daughters-has been spastic at best. I’ve worked until midnight and gotten up at five AM so many times these past few weeks that I forget what it looks like to wake up and see sunlight through my blinds.

For another thing, I am training for this marathon, which I have written about before. This is important for me to do. I want to accomplish this for myself, because, at this time in my life, running is one of the only things that I have that is just mine. Now I’m not complaining that I can’t pee without a toddler standing just a few feet away, but sometimes it is good, when you are a parent, especially one who works, to have something just for yourself. Of course, it is also tough to do this, and so waking at 5 AM to go for an 11 mile run is at times very frustrating, especially when you’ve been up all night taking care of sick children.

I’m also taking care of two sick children right now. You know, it was bad when I had one daughter and she got sick; multiply that by two and you are talking about catastrophe. Major catastrophe.

So, I believe it is time for a vacation. I think that for the next few days I will lay low. Read some magazines, watch television (I mean, actually sit down and watch a show instead of listening to it as I work or clean or fold laundry), paint my toe nails and do things that I normally never get the time to do.

How can you tell when it is time for a vacation? I’ve created a fun little checklist for my Monday morning post: I hope you enjoy!

1-Everytime you open your mouth to speak you start to cry.
2-You think about calling in sick to work every single day for one straight month.
3-You think about quitting your job constantly.
4-The last time you had a minute to yourself was when you locked yourself in the bathroom during one of your children’s tantrums and refused to come out until the screaming stopped.
5-You’ve painted over old toenail polish so many times that you are sure when you finally do take those coats off your nails will be yellow.
6-You call your kids by the wrong names. Every single time.
7-Those little quirks your children and spouse have that you think are cute are not so cute anymore. In fact, they make you want to throw something.

If you are suffering from any of these symptoms, please find a day or two to get away, relax, watch what you want on television and enjoy some rest and relaxation!

Have a great Monday.
