When Life Gets in the Way

The time one must invest in home business has been discussed many times. Those of us in home business warn that to be successful one must invest a significant amount of time building their business. Building a home business falls on the shoulders of the one employee…you. Get ready to spend late nights and weekends devoted to your new adventure. Working your life around a business can get hectic. It does take sacrifice and often the sacrifice of others in your life. Yet, there are times when life circumstances come before business. The details may differ for everyone depending on dependence income from the business or how much is demanded of you.

Just as I was settling into a life of homeschooling, business, writing, and blogging, something came up. My daughter began to have problems reading. We learned she was dyslexic. Since I homeschool I had to educate myself on how to help her. The time this would take would be significant. I felt compelled to cut back on all other obligations. That decision included business. This was not the time to start new projects.

If you find yourself in a situation where life gets in the way of business you will to prepare. Unless you are dealing with an immediate emergency take a few days to wrap things up and let your clients know you will be cutting back or taking time off. If possible try to offer your clients an alternative in your absence. Do not fear losing your clients or business by taking some time off or cutting back on projects. Yes, you may lose some business and you will have to rebuild from an absence from the business scene. Your loyal clients and contacts will respect your decision and work with you again. It is better to take some time off then to run a business distracted and feeling overwhelmed.
