When the World is Your Classroom, It Can Wear You Out

Right now, I am sitting with my true Spectrum light pointing at me trying to gather enough energy to get through the rest of the day. When the world is your classroom, sometimes it is quite exhausting, and right now, I am dog-tired.

I have spent the morning so far getting all the laundry processed so that the cleaning lady could do her thing (I know, waaa, waaaa, waaaa). I know I am blessed, but that does not make me any less tired. I also had to be available to answer curriculum questions from my kids. Next, I have to get the kids to swimming instructions on the far side of my town and sit there for an hour… I pray I will remember to bring a book to read. But I am sure someone will want to chat.

When the children get out of the pool, they won’t have time for their usual de-chlorinating rituals, instead I will have to shove two wet children into the car in the cold weather and high-tail it back home… probably picking up some diet ruining item for dinner on the way home.

When I get home, I will have 2 hours to get my daughters hair done. I have to wash it, blow dry it, and straighten it, then curl it. The job usually takes more than 2 hours. I wonder if I can just get her to wear on of my wigs. After that, I have to drive to the other far end of town to my kid’s homeschool academy.

You see, today is history project night at the kids homeschool academy. My 2 children and about 150 other children have projects to show off. About half of those projects will include performances. My daughter is playing the Entertainer on piano dressed in a period appropriate costume (one of her pageant dresses and a jacket). My son has made and edited a movie on how television works which will be shown on screen.

The group has at least been split into halves so we will only have to sit through about 30 or 40 performances. It is not that I am not excited to see what all of the children have learned so far this year. It is just that time of the year, I am already tired, and the rest of the day is sure to wipe me out.

Yes, I know. I chose to homeschool my kids. Moreover, just like any teacher in public schools, there will be times when I am not quite feeling up to the job. I do envy the fact that teachers and parents can educate kids without ever leaving the building.

But homeschooling my children is an honor for me, so I will do my best, smile and take pictures, and then get a good nights sleep.
