When to Keep Your Feelings to Yourself

In one article that I wrote for marriage enrichment tips, I discussed the importance of speaking up and letting your man know your feelings. I still believe that open communication is important. However, perhaps speaking out is not always the best option to choose.

Before speaking out, it is important to consider where your feelings are coming from and what has initiated them.

In some cases women have feelings that come from other places than the heart. They came from bad days, from hormones, and from mood swings. It is a good practice to begin recognizing when your feelings are genuine and when they are a product of one of the things listed above.

If your feelings may possibility be stemmed from an overly emotional day, then may be best to wait until your are in a better state of mind. If you still feel the same way then it is time to speak up. However it is very likely that the feeling will pass.

In other cases, the feeling may be initiated from the thoughts a past experience. If the situation has been discussed and put to rest, then there is no reason to speak up again. For example if you felt that your husband was flirting and you addressed the issues with him then you got mad at him again just from thinking about the situation, you should not speak up. You should try to deal with your feelings. In this case, he has not done anything to cause your feelings. Your feelings came from your mind revisiting past emotions.

Communication is very important in marriage and in relationships. However it is also very important to carefully think about what we say to the ones that we love. While we may be given forgiveness for harsh words, they can still hurt our mates and may not as easily be forgotten.
