When Was The Last Time YOU Dressed Up For Halloween?

Perhaps you’re like many parents—you’ve taken care to pick out the “perfect” costume for your little one. But what about you? When was the last time you dressed up for Halloween? Can’t remember? Well perhaps it’s time you head to the store and remember what it feels like to dress up, to be silly, to be someone else—for no other reason than the sheer FUN of it!

My sister and her husband go to Halloween parties every year. These adult-only parties give her the opportunity to have fun, to let loose, and to remember what fun she had as a child. This year, my husband and I found ourselves wishing we’d been invited to a party. I haven’t dressed up since I was in junior high school. It’s true, when I pick out costumes for my kids, I do make my way to the adult section, just to look. Perhaps next year, I’ll buy something. And instead of waiting to be invited to a party, perhaps I’ll be the one throwing one!

If you’d like to throw a Halloween party, remember a few things:

Keep it FUN: Don’t worry if all your decorations don’t match. Just go for it! Decorate the house with the goofy, the scary, and the crazy and your guests will be happy.

Be Creative!: Think adults don’t like “secret” boxes filled with “guts?” (aka spaghetti)—think again! Don’t be afraid to put a few “kid friendly” surprises around the house. Chances are the adults will enjoy them, too!

Keep the Music Fun and the Food Flowing: This doesn’t have to be complicated. Break out an old copy of “Monster Mash” or other Halloween songs. Serve appetizers or Halloween-inspired foods then leave your guests to frolick and mingle…and guess who each other is!

Whatever you do, don’t let another year go by without having some Halloween fun of your own. It doesn’t just have to be for kids.
