When Work gets Depressing

We try to stay motivated and chipper and focused on our home businesses–building them up and ironing out the wrinkles. No matter how chipper and encouraged we might be some of the time, there are going to be times when trying to work at our home businesses can be downright depressing. What should we do when work gets hard and depression sets in? Should we take it as a sign and give up? Should we forge on through? What does it mean when work at our home businesses gets depressing?

I do not care how much you love your work or are in love with your home business–there are going to be rough patches! For whatever reason, I do sometimes get up in the morning dragging my feet and finding it hard to get excited about work, and I do sometimes feel overwhelmed and depressed–whether it is because of what I have to do or what I do NOT have to do (not enough work or money), depression can be a major roadblock to motivation.

It might help to remind yourself that no matter how you feel today–everything eventually changes. Even tough times, depressing times, etc. give way to something different down the road. Sometimes, you can just ride out a bit of the depression and in a day or week or two, you will feel better again. Also, check to see if there is something non-work related going on–have you been eating right? Getting enough sleep? Are you feeling healthy and balanced? Sometimes what seems to be depression can be exhaustion or something physical that is keeping you from operating optimally.

Try something new, get some advice, talk things through with a friend–all of these tried and true methods really do help a person get out of the doldrums. It might seem daunting and when you are feeling depressed about your work it can be hard to see a way out–but trust in the process and keep moving, soon you will be in a different place all together.
