Where Are My Elves?

I took the day off work today to relax. This time of year is so busy that I just need some down time. Today seemed like a perfect day. All the shopping is done, the house is clean, presents are wrapped and the cooking doesn’t need to be started yet. Time just for me, read, relax, take a hot bath, whatever I wanted.

I was just sitting down to get caught up on some blogs when I hear the dog dry heaving, under the Christmas tree. I grab some napkins and start moving the presents from under the tree so hopefully I can get to the dog before she vomits on the floor. No such luck, she vomited all over the tree skirt. I move the rest of the presents and pull out the tree skirt so I can clean the vomit off of it.

Once the tree skirt is clean and drying I decide to vacuum the living room since everything is moved from under the tree anyway. I have a bagless vacuum and the little part holds the dirt is full so I pull it out to empty it, when I do, I hit the button that opens the dirt container. Dust and dirt everywhere. I pick up as much of it as I can and walk to the trash can, trailing dirt and dust all over the kitchen floor.

Back to vacuum the living room. Then I get the tree skirt and put it back under the tree and restack the presents. In my hurry to get to the dog I ripped some of the paper. Time to rewrap a few presents. Then I have to clean the kitchen floor where I dropped the dirt from the vacuum. After sweeping and mopping I open the pantry to put away the broom and a bag of flour falls off the shelf and splits open. I have to drag the vacuum back out and rewash the floor.

Now I need flour, so off to the store I go, with the rest of the crazy people grocery shopping today. I get home, the dog has vomited again, on the couch. Time to get out the carpet cleaner so I can clean the upholstery on the couch, it’s Christmas, people are going to be stopping by, I don’t want doggie vomit stains on the couch. I broke the carpet cleaner.

Now, I’m sitting here wishing I went to work today because I feel like I’m stuck in a really bad version of If You Give a Mouse a Cookie. I should have just planned to clean all day. Maybe I can relax next year.
