Where are the Books?

Where are your books in your house? Being an avid reader I always find it strange when I walk into a house and there are no books. I guess that’s a result of growing up always surrounded by books and a mother who saw the importance of reading.

In our house books seems to spill over into just about every room. The lounge room which is near the entry hall has a huge bookcase stuffed with books: fiction, poetry, Christian books, Australian authors, some of my own published books, biography – a real hodge podge. Favorite authors of which I have multiple books are grouped together. One whole shelf plus another half a one is poetry, much of it Australian, but also some from China, USA, Canada, England and classics like Homer’s Odyssey which I adore. A bible or two usually is on the coffee table or occasional table.

The kitchen has a surprising array of cook books for someone who doesn’t use them all that often and couldn’t follow a recipe as it is written if I tried. Still, sometimes the recipe book is a starting point. Then there are two recipe books I made myself and boxes of recipe cards as well. A recipe journal I was given recently as a gift lives in the family room next to my chair, where I write recipes in after I have invented them, as I did the other night. That chicken recipe will go up on the food blog at a later date.

The family room has another huge book case filled with mostly fiction but also war and history and Australiana books. There is also a small cupboard stuffed to the gills with more books. Under the coffee table live the assortment of books borrowed from the library so they never get mixed up with ours.

If you think that’s all the books in our house, you’d be mistaken. There are still more to come in the next blog.
