A week ago I complained to anyone who would listen that the local bargain store was clearing out sunscreen and no longer had the zinc oxide I wanted. I couldn’t believe they would pack away those products in the middle of July when the weather was still plenty hot and sunny. But there were boxes where they were packing up summer things and unopened boxes with school supplies.
Yesterday I complained about all the back to school sales going on. I said things like “couldn’t they just let us enjoy our summer”, and “we’ll worry about that next month”, and “I’m not ready to think about it”. We need some craft paint to finish a project, but I dread going in the craft store. I just know they’ll have Halloween and Christmas decorations out. It will make me feel pressured, like I’m already running behind, and that instead of drinking lemonade in the shade I need to start on costumes, plan parties, and make out gift lists and menus.
And then last night we looked at the calendar. We have about three and a half weeks until school starts. A week of that is slated for visiting grandparents. And poof, our summer disappeared. I guess I do need to find our supply lists and do some back to school shopping.
We started talking about the fun things we had done this summer. Gas prices and finances have limited us a bit, but we’ve still done some fun craft projects, had friends to play, and other activities. And then we talked about what we could still reasonably do this summer. Homemade ice cream, the farmer’s market, the arcade, a water park, a big water balloon fight, and seeing Kung Fu Panda movie are all on our list.
What’s on your list?
