“Where do I begin?”

One question I am asked by others who are intend on earning a living at home is “where do I begin?” Everyone is looking for a starting point. Most are too aware and savvy to expect a magic answer that will instantly catapult them to success. With the challenging economy many are looking for an alternative way to earn a living. Others have lost a job or income and are pursuing a dream or forced onto a different path due to a lack of jobs. Still many parents desire more family time or to be home with the kids so seeking a job at home or a home business is a priority. In any case, where does one begin?

You will need to determine if you want to work at home or start a home business. The two are different concepts with different expectations and investment requirements.

A work at home opportunity means you will be working for a company. That may entail training, specific hours, tracking hours, and possibly equipment. You should never have to invest in more then equipment or education to work at home. Paying a company to join a program or for training is a red flag that the company may be a scam.

A home business will make you the boss. This may sound freeing and appealing to many but it also means no guaranteed income. You will have to financially invest in every aspect of the business. Also do not forget about promotions which are vital to the success of your business. You will spend ample time making connections and building a platform for your business.

Both options have their benefits and challenges. You will have to choose the option that best suits your situation. Regardless of your choice you will spend a lot of time researching. The hunt is worth the reward.
