Traditional grocery stores are wonderfully convenient for grocery food shopping, but there are some other alternatives that can save you some money on your food bill. Explore the following options on where to buy food and reduce the cost of feeding your family.

Bakery Thrift Store
This is one of my favorite places to get bread, bagels, crackers, cookies and sometimes frozen foods. Some of the food is past its date, while other offerings are just overages from the grocery stores, when they produce more than the stores order. You’ll pay less for your bread products in either case, with deeper discounts for the older products.
Mart Store
Walmart, Super Walmart and Target all offer food products. Many of their offerings are cheaper than the grocery stores for regular prices, and they also offer sales. for example, I find that Target has the best price on Arizona Green Tea. Bring your price book if you have one, and note the prices on your normal food purchases.
Produce Center
Make an effort to find out about your local produce center. This is a store that deals only with produce and nothing else. This type of store isn’t necessarily a farmer’s market, so you may not be able to purchase anything organic. Instead, be prepared to purchase your produce in bulk for the biggest savings.
Butcher
Believe it or not, the butcher shop really does exist. While you may no longer have a butcher around every corner, there are more butcher shops around than you might think. With a butcher shop, you have more flexibility in the cuts and types of meat that you want, whether or not to buy in bulk, etc. The butcher will also cut up a whole chicken or grind your meat for free, allowing you to pay less than the prepackaged stuff in the stores.
