Where to Celebrate Spring

So you don’t have the time or money to fly to Hawaii or take a jaunt to jolly ol’ England, but you don’t want to be the only one staying home while the rest of the country soaks up the sun. Don’t fret; the following destinations make for a perfect spring fling getaway:

AUSTIN, TEXAS

Springtime in Austin is warm, sunny (temps average in the low 80s) and laid back. The city is known as the “Live Music Capital of the World” and you’ll see why once you tour the downtown area. That’s where you’ll find more than 100 venues to shake and shimmy the night away. If dancing’s not your thing the city is also home to dozens of art galleries and museums, which showcase the area’s cultural diversity.

CHARLESTON, SOUTH CAROLINA

If you are looking for some true southern comfort then head to Charleston, South Carolina. The picturesque city is full of historic landmarks, gorgeous gardens, and charming inns. Spring is the ideal time to visit because the temperatures are still tolerable and you don’t have to worry about passing out from heat exhaustion while you are touring the downtown area on foot. You could also opt to save your energy for shopping and take a carriage ride through the city. It’s the perfect spot to enjoy the blooming flowers while you scope out the restaurants and stores you want to hit once the ride is over.

SANTA FE, NEW MEXICO

Santa Fe, New Mexico’s beauty is credited to its vast desert landscapes, sprawling adobe architecture, and proximity to the spectacular Rocky Mountains. During the spring you can soak up all that Santa Fe has to offer without the summer crowds. Spring is also the time of year when the yucca flowers are in full bloom and vendors display their eclectic pottery, jewelry, sculptures and paintings outdoors for all to see.

NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA

You know spring has sprung in New Orleans when hundreds of thousands of music fans migrate to the Bayou for Jazz Fest. The six-day cultural festival features musical acts from across the globe. Each goes wild on stages placed at various spots around town. In addition to the soulful sounds, you can sample Louisiana cuisine or check out local crafts at the Fair Grounds Race Course.
