Where to Donate Stuff

donation box If your home is suffering from stuffitis, then know that spring is a really good time to give it a good clean out. Having a yard sale isn’t for everyone, but that doesn’t mean that all of your formerly loved stuff has to wind up in the trash. Instead try donating it to one of the following worthy causes.

Animal Shelters

We don’t normally think about donating things to animal shelters, but the truth is that they can use many home items in a really useful way to care for and make stray animals feel at home as well as get them ready for adoption. Animal shelters will also take many things that you cannot donate elsewhere.

Items to donate:

Soft blankets

Towels (the thicker the better)

Sheets

Cloth tablecloths

These items will be used in the animal cages to keep the animals clean and comfortable.

Furniture Bank

Did you know that there is a national organization that provides furniture to victims of natural disasters, such as hurricanes, floods and earthquakes? They also help lower income families and women and children fleeing from abuse. It is called Furniture Bank and will be happy to take that furniture that you no longer need or want.

Please keep in mind that everything needs to be clean and in usable condition.

Items to donate:

Bed frames

Lamps

Couches

Chairs

Dressers

Dining room sets

Tables

Small bookcases

Habitat for Humanity Stores

Habitat for Humanity will gladly take many of the things that are needed in building and maintaining homes for people in needs. Whenever you renovate your home and have leftover fixtures, appliances or even raw materials, you should consider donating them to Habitat for Humanity.

One thing that you may not know is that Habitat for Humanity also sells items that they cannot immediately use for their homes. They have several stores, where homeowners can purchase items at a reduced cost. Habitat for Humanity takes the money earned on these purchases and uses it to fund its good work.
