Where to Find Money

find money If you want to have a little frugal fun, why not hunt for money? People are constantly dropping money, especially coins, and if you know where to look, you just might find some.

I remember the first time I ever found money on the ground. I was around eight years old and out playing in a parking lot with a friend. We found a $20 bill, which was probably the equivalent of $40 or so today. We split the money, giving us $10 each. How we handled our money was quite different. I elected to save mine, while my friend decided to treat five of his other friends to malted milkshakes. Of course, I was the less popular one! Later that $10 was used to buy some groceries for the family, so in the end it was a good thing it had been saved.

It is always a thrill to find money, isn’t it? What an unexpected present. If I see someone drop the money, I always give it back, of course. Most of the time, though, it is just laying there for the taking. Here are some spots where you are most likely to find money.

1. In your own house. Okay, this is a no brainer, right? But you would be surprised how much money you can hunt up when needed for a gallon of milk or an ice cream cone or even a take out pizza, if you look. The top places in your home include the cliched couch cushions, the laundry room, bedside tables and dressers, the first flat surface that is accessible upon entering the home, the bottom of a purse and pants pockets.

2. Parking lots. Do you remember the mention above of my first time at finding money? Parking lots are notorious for being places to find dropped money. Take a walk through a parking lot and you’ll see what I mean. Parking lots for places that don’t take credit cards or in which small items are purchased, such as some convenience stores, are even better.
