Where To Have a Haunted Halloween

It’s that time of the year again. Time to get your scream on at amusement parks nationwide.

According to the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions, 81 percent of amusement parks are hosting Halloween or fall-themed events this year. Thrill-seekers can partake in a variety of hair-raising events from haunted houses complete with bloody zombies and three-eyed monsters to corn mazes featuring ax-wielding madmen.

Here’s a list of some of the most spooktacular Halloween events taking place this month:

“Hall of Terror” and “Haunted River Ride” at Adventure Landing in Jacksonville Beach, Florida

“Howl-O-Scream” at Busch Gardens, Tampa Bay, Florida

“Halloween Spooktacular” at SeaWorld Orlando and SeaWorld San Diego

“Halloween Horror Nights” at Universal Studios in Universal City, California, and in Orlando

“HalloWeekends” at Cedar Point, Sandusky, Ohio

“SCarowinds” at Carowinds, Charlotte, North Carolina

“FrightFest 2009” at Darien Lake Theme Park Resort, Darien Center, New York

“Halloween Time” at Disneyland, Anaheim, California

“Phantom Fright Nights” at Kennywood Park, West Mifflin, Pennsylvania

“Halloween Haunt” at Kings Dominion in Doswell, Virginia

“Knott’s Scary Farm Halloween Haunt” at Knott’s Berry Farm, Buena Park, California

“Fright Fest” at Six Flags locations in or near Mitchellville, Maryland; San Antonio, Texas; Jackson, New Jersey; Gurnee, Illinois; Lake George, New York; Louisville, Kentucky; Los Angeles, California; Arlington, Texas; Eureka, Missouri; Vallejo, California; Agawam, Massachusetts; and Atlanta, Georgia

“Hersheypark in the Dark” at Hersheypark, Hershey, Pennsylvania

Another place offering big-budget special effects, elaborate sets, and scream-a-minute scares is the Old Tucson Studios in Arizona. Each year the studio is transformed from a movie set used to shoot Westerns, to the spooky town of Nightfall where flesh-eating gargoyles, prey on visitors as they navigate an abandoned mine in the middle of a desert.

In addition, Kansas City, Missouri does its best to frighten visitors during the month of October with a pair of haunted houses that end with terrifying slides, including one that drops guests five floors down into the devil’s arms.
