While you may be doing a great deal of shopping for the people on your gift list, you might also be wondering whether this time of year is a good time to scout out the sales on items that you need for your home – based business. If you itemize deductions on your tax return, it makes sense to shop now, especially if you have identified some things that you need. There are also some items that are usually on sale in December.
For example, December is one time of year where computers are at their lowest prices. In fact, my current laptop was a December purchase last year, a Christmas gift from my very generous and supportive husband. The price was so good that he even got one for himself.
If you need tools like hammers, saws, drills, and other hand held or power tools for your home – based business, December is a great time to buy them. Stores like Home Depot and Lowes work hard to compete for your holiday gift giving dollars, often in the form of great deals on all kinds of tools. Another tip for scoring even deeper discounts is to visit the clearance section before you shop the rest of the store. My husband has given some pretty amazing tools as gifts to his brother and his dad, thanks to the clearance section and the holiday sales at Home Depot.
If your business involves cooking or baking, cookware prices are low in December. Of course, your business may need things that are not on this list. Do a little research online for “best time to buy” whatever it is that you are looking for, and see if you can strategically plan your purchases and stock up on must have items when they are at their best prices. For example, fill your office supply cabinet to bursting in September, when those things are on sale, and you may be able to get enough to last until the following September.
