The person we marry is usually the person who closely shares our interests. There is a great deal of truth to the fact that opposites attract, but even those opposites have some things in common including common interests. No matter how alike your interests were ten years ago, chances are – those interests have adjusted over the years.
So, who are you married to?
Do you know what your spouse’s interests are these days? Are they still interested in the same things? Are you? It’s important to get reacquainted with the interests and hobbies that your spouse likes. It’s equally important that you share your passion and interests with your spouse.
I’ve Taken Up Quilting and My Husband Likes Rock Climbing
These may be totally new interests that have developed over the life of the marriage. Does this mean you need to take up rock climbing and he should learn to quilt? Not necessarily. But learning to appreciate what they like and what they enjoy can give you both an outlet to share through.
It’s not unusual for married couples to forget the fact that sometimes just spending time with our spouses when they are doing something they love is a thrill for them. You don’t have to understand what they are doing or even really get the point of it (if it’s a sport or other), but it can give your relationship and your marriage a real boost to spend that kind of time.
Learn About Their Hobby
You may discover as you spend time with your spouse on their hobby that you are interested in it. Learning a new hobby with them can be a great way for the two of you to spend time together and to have fun together.
Teaching your spouse about your hobbies and learning about theirs can make for a real pleasurable time between the two of you. It also provides the two of you with more ways to spend time together. Remember, marriage is all about give and take and that can mean giving companionship and taking advantage of the opportunity to learn new hobbies. So, do you know who you are married to? Doesn’t it sound like fun to find out more?
