I wrote a month or so in the Home Business blog about the challenges of trying to work with a kitten climbing all over the keyboard. My middle daughter “rescued” the adorable creature downtown and brought him home when he was barely four weeks old. As I established myself in the kitchen and dining room this morning to welcome another Thanksgiving–I realized that while the kids are no longer under foot, the kitten definitely is!
Now, you should know that I LOVE Thanksgiving. As an avid cook, I so enjoy everything from planning the menu to lingering over setting the table and cooking each and every dish. I started the last night by making all the pies and desserts and couldn’t wait to get downstairs to start the day’s preparations this morning. Unfortunately, instead of the leisurely, productive morning I had planned, I am having flashbacks to when I had three toddlers under foot–although I think one naughty, rambunctious kitten is far worse than three unpredictable toddlers!
Having pulled him out of cupboards and off the table I was attempting to beautify, having him run through my newly accumulated pile of swept-up dirt and also deciding that while I was cleaning the downstairs bathroom, everything I touched he also needed to touch–I found myself losing patience and feeling for all the world like that haggard parent I was 15 years ago. I even threatened the little monster with a time out if he didn’t shape up! Needless to say, he’s still running around like a wild goose but I am holding out hope he will crash soon and I get a little reprieve. Again, strangely familiar feelings. I just keep reminding myself that it is all temporary and that he won’t be a kitten forever. Soon he will join my other two relaxed and lazy cats and be a pleasant companion. After all, they just don’t stay little like that forever…
