Who Does the Grocery Shopping?

In our society and in a marriage there are some things that are noted to be a woman’s job and some things that are noted to be a man’s job. Thankfully, the advancement of women in the world and the new trend of the upcoming generation have changed some of these thoughts. Yet in many marriages they still hold true.

For example, it is thought that women do the cooking and cleaning and childcare. Men are usually known to do yard work, fix things around the home, and grill for cookouts and such.

This train of thought has led me to today’s question for you. Who does the grocery shopping in your marriage, the man or the woman?

I see many different combinations when it comes to grocery shopping. In many marriages, the woman does the majority of the grocery store errands. However, in some the man is responsible. I have also seen the two get the work done together.

In the relationships where the woman shops, I have often heard it said that she preferred to shop alone because he was not price consciousness and did not think through the purchases. If sent alone, he would not return with the proper items.

I have heard a few males comment that they liked to do the shopping because the wife did not buy the types of foods that they prefer.

I think that it also depends on who does most of the cooking.

In many stores I have seen both the man and the woman shopping together. They make the choices together and share in the job.

I think that it is important for both parties to carry out all of the household chores at least once or twice. When both partners are knowledgeable on how the home is ran, the stress can be reduced when one or the other gets sick or cannot carry out their normal duties.
