I read a great little article in the Ensign last Sunday. It was a short one titled, A Friend in the Bishop. For some reason this article really touched my heart. It made me realize that we all have special people that have touched our lives for the better. And, when I think about the organization of the church, and all the leaders who put in countless hours fulfilling their callings and going the extra mile to touch the life of another, then I am grateful for the Lord’s plan. I know He organized this church this way for a reason.
I can think of one such leader in my life. He was my stake president at the time I was trying to decide whether or not to serve a full-time mission. I had always wanted to go, but was hesitant because of what I felt like was lack of support at the time from members of my family. I was a young single adult trying to live my life right, but as most young adults these days, I felt like there were obstacles all around me. My stake president took my sister and I under his wing. He took us to his house one Saturday afternoon and we just spent the day in his loving home. I will never forget the kindness he had towards us, and the understanding he seemed to have for our situation as well.
That is the beauty of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. It gives us the opportunity to both serve and be served. In doing that, we can feel of the Savior’s love for us, and for those around us. When we go that extra mile to show someone that we care, then that is when the Spirit can touch our lives and we can feel closer to our older brother, Jesus Christ.
I was grateful for this little article in the Ensign that made me ponder on those that have touched my life. Because, there have been many along the way, and I’m sure there will be many more to come.
