Who is Kate Middleton?

It’s just two days now before the big royal wedding and you may be wondering just who the bride, Kate Middleton, is.

Catherine Elizabeth Middleton, soon to be known as Princess, grew up in Bucklebury, Berkshire, England. She met Prince William in 2001 when they both attended the University of St. Andrews in Scotland. Kate has two siblings – sister Philippa (known as Pippa) and brother James.

Kate has worked as an accessory buyer for Jigsaw, a clothing chain, but wanted to be a professional photographer, although that didn’t work out.

Like William’s mother Princess Diana, Kate is often admired for her fashion sense, being named “Most Promising Newcomer” by The Daily Telegraph in 2006. She has also been included in Vanity Fair’s best-dressed list and Global Language Monitor named her Top Fashion Buzzword of 2011.

Like many young couples, William and Kate split once during their relationship. But, the 2007 split didn’t last long as the young couple reconciled in 2008. Although the press often referred to her as Waity Katie, William finally proposed when the two were on an trip to Kenya in October 2010.

Huffington Post is reporting that Kate’s wedding dress was designed by Sophie Cranston (Libelula label). Kate wore a Libelula black velvet dress this past January to a friend’s wedding.

Because Kate doesn’t come from a royal or aristocratic background, she doesn’t have her own title. Once married to William, she get the title of “Her Royal Highness Princess William of Wales.” If William gets a dukedom upon his marriage, which is often the custom, Kate will become a Duchess. It is not unheard of for the Queen to give someone a title of their own, as she did her husband Prince Phillip in 1957, so there is a chance Kate could become “Her Royal Highness Princess Catherine.”
