Being a follower or a leader has very little to do with being male or female or with age. Some people are just born controllers while others are born watchers.
In many cases younger siblings will more easily handle issues and take care of older siblings. One may have a more out going personality and feel more comfortable addressing others.
The same goes for marriages. One person is usually better at taking care of business and handling problems and issues. The other person may have input and opinions, but there is typically one person that has more initiative and brass. This is usually the person that summons up the deal. In some cases it is the wife and in others it is the husband.
So which one of you takes care of the business in your marriage? Is it the wife that sets up the appointments and gets on the phone when trouble hits? Or do you call your husband before making a decision when something comes up? Which of you would be more likely to go out and purchase a car without having the other tag along? When something breaks in your house, which chooses the repairman?
It seems that most women prefer that the husband takes care of most of the business. It is not that they are unknowledgeable or incapable. However they just prefer not to be the one to make decisions about vehicles, broken things, etc. Yet when it comes to any decisions about the children or household ideas, they usually step up and take over. They tend not to be as passionate about other issues and in some cases simply do not care what decision is made.
I think that the nature of the situation depends greatly on which partner has more input. However, I have seen some married couples where one partner basically remains silent and has no say in any of the business.
