I am not a huge fan of turkey, but Thanksgiving just doesn’t seem like Thanksgiving without one, at least to me.
But, there are plenty of celebrities that won’t be eating turkey this year because they are vegetarian or vegan.
PETA named funny man Russell Brand one of its Sexiest Vegetarian Celebrities of 2011, so needless to say he won’t be gnawing on a turkey leg tomorrow. The female Sexiest Vegetarian Celebrity of 2011 was Kristen Wiig of “Saturday Night Live” and Bridemaids fame, so no turkey for her either.
There are several Academy Award winners and nominees who will be asking for seconds on veggies tomorrow. Woody Harrelson (he’s received two nominations), Jessica Chastain (she was nominated last year for The Help), James Cromwell (he was nominated for Babe in 1995), Natalie Portman (she’s received two nominations and won for Black Swan in 2011), Brad Pitt (he’s received four nominations), Casey Affleck (he was nominated for The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford in 2007), and Joaquin Phoenix (he’s received two nominations) are vegans while Anne Hathaway (she was nominated for Rachel’s Getting Married in 2009), Anna Paquin (she won for The Piano in 1993), Diane Keaton (she’s received four nominations and one win for Annie Hall in 1978), Kate Winslet (she’s received five nominations and one win for The Reader, Forest Whitaker (he won for The Last King of Scotland in 2007), and Alec Baldwin (he was nominated for The Cooler in 2003) are vegetarians.
Actress Betty White has avoided eating meat for years and maybe it is because she has always had such a great love for animals. Other stars such as Peter Dinklage (“Game of Thrones”), Lea Michele (“Glee”), Sandra Oh (“Grey’s Anatomy”), Julianna Margulies and costar Alan Cumming (“The Good Wife”), and Bob Harper (“The Biggest Loser”) may chose tofu turkeys tomorrow over the real variety.
And, there are musicians too that will just say “No, thanks!” to the gobblers this year, including Bruce Springsteen, Alanis Morissette, Emmylou Harris, Boy George, Shania Twain, Carrie Underwood, Paul McCartney, and Anthony Kiedis from the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
