Some of us are lucky to have business mentors in our lives who encourage and support us as we work to build our home businesses. Others of us might have colleagues, ex-co-workers, and others who we can turn to when we need ideas or information. But, there are also those individuals out there who are NOT a part of our little daily lives–but whose ideas and information we would love to have. I don’t know about you, but there are people both living and “passed on” who I would love to have as mentors. If I had my way and I could have a fantasy business support group–there are some untouchable folks I would be thrilled to include…
My business support group would not necessarily include all “business people” either. In fact, I would love to have Julia Child (who built a career after forty), Erma Bombeck, Margaret Mead, and even Garrison Keillor in my fantasy home business support group. I would make the coffee and maybe we’d even have a coffee cake as we talked over writing, families, aging, travel–the realities of juggling. I am not really interested in the biggies–Martha Stewart or Donald Trump; I’m more interested in some of those people who lived and worked in the same space–like Catherine the Great. There are some women that I have read about in my “pioneer women” books who managed to build wealth and businesses like ranches, mining companies and newspapers while raising a family and using home as the business base who would also make my roster.
How about you? Who would you invite to your fantasy home business support group? Would they big business gurus or those who “speak” to you in other areas and affect other parts of your life? Whose ideas, stories, wisdom, and advice would you like to have as you work to build your own home-based business?
