Whose Home is This?

Let me start by asking how you feel about illegal immigration. I’d love to hear your opinions. Personally, I don’t even like the terminology. Immigration is a legal process so illegal immigration is an oxymoron, in my opinion. I feel that anyone who enters this country illegally does a disservice not only to American citizens, but also to the people that came here and endured each step of the process to become legal citizens.

In regard to homes, I recently heard a good analogy for the illegal problem. One person attempted to explain why he was so offended by people who illegally enter this country. He summed it up this way: “Guests do not sneak over your fence in the dark of night, break into your home, and make demands. They approach openly, knock and wait to be admitted, and if they have even a modicum of respect, they attempt to behave according to the rules of your household. They do not make demands, but instead appreciate your hospitality.”

That’s how I feel in regard to America. It makes perfect sense to me, especially after watching protests where some illegals showed absolute hate for Americans and demanded “rights,” as if breaking the law should be rewarded.

Let me just clarify that this issue is not about race. I feel the same way about illegals from any country, of any race. I feel they need to obey the rule of law like everybody else, if they want to take advantage of all this great nation has to offer. They should not be afforded special rights over citizen’s objections and at the expense of those who entered legally. We need to protect our homeland, just like we protect our own homes. I welcome people of other races, sincerely; all I ask is that they follow the rules.

Too bad our lawmakers don’t seem to feel the same way…
