Why do Most Diets Fail

If you were to look at the majority of diets people try, most fail. In fact, not only does the person on the diet not lose weight but also often when the diet is over, he or she will actually gain more weight than what was trying to be lost in the first place. As you can imagine, this is frustrating but there is good reason. You see, when someone eats too much, it is because the brain does not have enough neurotransmitters. What happens is that this imbalance causes the body to try to find a replacement, usually in the form of food, thus overeating occurs.

Okay, when the wrong foods are consumed, we are not replacing or rebuilding these neurotransmitters. Therefore, when people go on fad diets, the body is not being replenished with the right type of foods. This means the body wants more and more food so as soon as the “diet” is over, the individual goes right back to feeling hungry. Remember, not all diets are healthy diets. The key with losing weight is to eat well-balanced meals everyday of your life.

Another reason people fail on diets is the stress. By nature, we put ourselves into tough situations of desperately wanting to lose weight, which ends up stressing us out. Unfortunately, the greater the stress the more you want to eat. For this reason, a person may start out on a diet with all good intentions, buy healthy foods, but then after a week or two, it becomes too difficult so the diet is ditched.

Now, one of the keys to losing weight is to make sure your body is being provided with certain amino acids, which provide nutrients that can aid in restoring normal balances within the brain. As mentioned with the transmitters, this prevents overeating, and therefore, losing weight. The amino acids you want to get in the form of food or supplements include l-phenylalanine, d-phenylalanine, l-tyrosine, l-glutamine, l-arginine, l-ornithine, l-carnitine, and chromium.

In other words, you need to start by being realistic about your “diet”, realizing that instead you need a lifestyle change to delicious but healthy foods. In addition, rather than continually feed your body, you need to make sure you feed your brain with proper nutrients. The outcome will be an overall healthier body but also one that responds more effectively to the good foods being consumed.
