Why do I love Turkish Food? I’ll give you a hint—it has to do with warm climates, fresh produce, and no cans. Yep, you guessed it. It’s because Turks enjoy a Mediterranean diet. Simple in ingredients but big on flavor, Turks have the right idea when it comes to eating.
When you’re trying to lose weight, the best thing you can do for your body is to enjoy an abundance of healthy, fresh foods. This includes fruit, vegetables, whole grains, and healthy fats. Without the added processed foods we enjoy here in America, Turks are able to eat more and stay leaner than Americans.
So what do I love about Turkish food in particular? It’s a feast for the eyes before it ever hits your mouth. Watch a Turkish woman preparing green beans and suddenly you’ll see how beautiful they can be. Experience a table-full of simple Turkish cuisine and you’ll see a variety of colors tempting your taste buds. I saw the freshest produce ever when I was in Turkey. Fruits and vegetables weren’t huge, chocked full of hormones. They were small and amazingly flavorful. I ate and ate during my trip to Turkey, and came back thinner. A fluke? I think not.
When you eat fresh ingredients, you’ll find that you’re satisfied quicker. Without sacrificing flavor, you can enjoy a beautiful meal with all the food groups, and you won’t have to eat twice your weight in food to do it. The result? A healthier, leaner you.
If you’re trying to lose weight, why not consider a Mediterranean diet? Simply prepare your foods fresh, without added “fillers.” Skip the butter and opt for a small helping of olive oil instead. Go to your grocery store and be reacquainted with the produce section. Try something new. Chances are you’ll like your new ingredients—and your new figure, too.
