Since I was very young, I can always remember needing a creative outlet in which to express myself. Before it was scrapbooking it was stamping, and before it was stamping it was arts and crafts. Even from a really young age, I can remember being enthralled with the idea of saving memories and making myself relive them over and over again. I can remember making ‘books’ as I called them, with magazine cut-outs and photographs and words and journaling and cool pictures and drawings.
That wasn’t just a book. It was the beginning of a scrapbook. Albeit not a very ‘safe’ scrapbook, but a scrapbook nonetheless.
So when I took the opportunity to sit down the other day, and look through some old issues of scrapbooking magazines – I swear I was trying to get rid of a few (I didn’t) – I came across the question, of what makes me happy about scrapbooking. The question was posed directly about our scrap spaces, so that’s where I began.
First, my entire space makes me happy, because I have a spot that is relatively close to all family activities, it’s large enough that my five children can work on projects with me close by and the space simply suits me well. While there are things I plan to improve on, overall the entire area makes me happy.
But digging further in, I noticed my colorful arrangement of embellishments. They made me smile. I guess they make me happy. And all my colorful ink pads make me happy. Another thing that makes me smile when I look at it, is a make shift wall hanging I designed for my wall. It has a few specially designed layouts hanging from it. It might just be my favorite thing about the area.
Overall, scrapbooking itself – the art of it – makes me very happy. I love to create, I love to look back at memories and I love to collect stuff to use in my albums.
So what makes you happy about scrapbooking or your scrap space?
