Why Take Dating Advice from this “Bachelor”?

Recently I caught part of an episode of Dr. Phil where he had some handsome guy as a guest trying to advise women how not to be in order to get the man of their dreams. I remembered part of the title of the book because it was sort of catchy, Don’t Be That Girl, but I wasn’t very impressed with the guy or his advice.

I ended up turning off the show (a) because I had something else I needed to do, and (b) because I was thinking, “Yeah, you’re a good looking guy and I’m sure you’ve had a lot of dates, but you’re not married. Why should anyone listen to you?”

Well, last night during one of the commercials here comes a picture of that book again and one of the hosts of Talk of the Town, a local show here in Nashville says, “And tomorrow the Bachelor himself, Dr. Travis Stork, will join us to talk about his new book.”

The full title of the book turns out to be Don’t Be That Girl: A Guide to Finding the Confident, Rational Girl Within. Travis L. Stork, M.D. is listed as the author (as in reality TV of The Bachelor fame Dr. Traivs Stork), but there’s an important other name listed as a “contributor” as well: Leah Furman.

She’s co-authored other books such as The Everything Wedding Etiquette Book and The Everything Wedding Vows Book, just to name a couple.

So I’m not sure who’s more responsible for the book’s content, him or her. Maybe he thinks he’s some kind of expert and the publishers are banking on his celebrity to sell copies. He’s even more of a celeb here in Nashville because this is where he works. Or worked. I’m not sure he’s a doctor who sees patients anymore.

Anyway, apparently now he’s using his fame to try and consult women on how they should not appear desperate, like they have an agenda, or are insecure doormats in order not to scare guys like himself off. As if he’s that great of a catch!

I haven’t read this book, and since I’m married I don’t have any desire to, but for those of you who are single and looking, I’m not so sure you need his book either. I don’t know how much valid info he’s really trying to convey. He seems like he just wants a way to stay in the spotlight more than genuinely trying to help you be the best catch you can be.

Besides, just because something scares him off doesn’t mean it’s going to scare off every man.
