Why You Might Want to Think About Buying Pampers

diapers I was recently told by the executive membership director at Costco that to date, I’ve spent a whopping $3,000 in Costco last year. If you consider that I buy most of my groceries there, that’s not too bad. All the same, I can confidently assert that a large portion of that money is spent on diapers and wipes. If I’m already having to spend the money anyways, I’m all for spending it on something that’s going to help someone else. Enter Pampers.

You may have seen the commercials already. A heavily accented voice (Salma Hayek) begins talking while you see images of mothers and their babies from all different walks of life. 1 pack = 1 vaccine. For every specially marked box of Pampers that you buy, the Pampers folks donate 5 cents to supply one tetanus vaccine in places where the vaccine is desperately needed. The products that are eligible are specially marked and include a full range of sizes of the diapers as well as some wipes. The campaign ends on August 31 and the goal for the United States is 45 million vaccines, bringing the total of worldwide donations to 70 million.

More on Tetanus

Tetanus has virtually been wiped out in the United States but there are still 47 countries that have not eliminated tetanus. In those countries tetanus has a fatality rate of 70% to 100%! To look at it a little differently, about 140,000 infants and 60,000 women die each year from tetanus. A 5 cent vaccine could eradicate a lot of death in the world.

What If I Don’t Like Pampers?

If you don’t like Pampers brand but still would like to donate some money to this worthy cause, you can go to the Unicef Website and click on the “donate now” button. To think that $1 provides 20 vaccines. It doesn’t take a lot to make a big difference.
