Why You Need To Be Careful Going Low Carb

Though the height of the low-carb phase has died out, many people struggling to lose weight still turn to low carbohydrate diets. In many cases, when adhered to strictly, these diets produce a great weight loss in a much shorter period of time than with other eating plans. But before you decide to jump on the low-carb bandwagon, there are a few things you need to consider:

Low carb diets aren’t for wimps-That’s right, if you’re one of those dieters who starts a diet on Monday only to cave by Wednesday, do not do a low-carb diet. Why? Because as soon as you go back to “normal” eating, you’re going to gain weight. There are many jokes out there about people who fail on low-carbohydrate diets and wind up blowing up like a balloon.

Low carb diets are not all the same-Do your homework. Atkins is not the same as South Beach. It’s important to know which plan you’re going to follow and stick with it. Consistency is the key here for optimal results. And remember, you don’t always have to stick to a certain plan. Why not try making a conscious effort to just reduce your carbohydrates rather than going gung-ho on a particular plan? I’ve done this, and admittedly the results are slower, but they are consistent. Give it a try.

I must admit, I like low-carbohydrate plans. I’ll explain why in a later blog, but let’s just say you can eat more and feel more satisfied than on most other types of plans. But low-carb eating isn’t for everyone. Especially if you have high blood pressure or high cholesterol. You have to make a lifetime commitment to low-carb eating if you have these health risks, otherwise, you’re going to send your body into a confused frenzy and actually do more harm than good.

As with all plans, it’s best to seek the advice of a qualified professional before starting any program. Low-carb programs can be safe and very effective. But do your homework. Ask questions. And know what you’re getting into before you begin.
