Wicked Weekend Weather, Part II

(continued)

We pulled into the bus stop and saw the bus approaching from a few blocks away. Just then, a huge bolt of lightning hit the ground on the other side of the highway. It startled me so badly that I screamed, and I could only imagine how scared my kids must be on the bus!

Thankfully, the storm was moving very fast and the sky was beginning to clear before we even arrived at home. We were a little shaken and kept the television on to keep track of the weather. The local station indicated that it was going to be a long weekend filled with dangerous weather.

Well, they weren’t kidding. The evening consisted of record breaking lightning strikes, heavy rains, large hail, and several tornadoes. We were in a little pocket that was catching the edges of all the storms, but not the worst part of any of them. As one tornado was spotted a little too close for comfort, I suddenly noticed the time. My daughter was probably on her way home from babysitting, and she was very close to that storm!

I prayed, and I was in tears when she called to say that the coach had taken her to the coach’s relative’s home a few miles away and they were all in the basement. By the time things began to settle down and she made it home, the power had gone off. We sat and talked by candlelight for a while, just thankful that the worst appeared to be over.

My nerves were shot and I was exhausted, by I was also wired. My husband and I played Scrabble (I won). Then, I decide to go to bed, and it started storming again. I laid in bed watching the lightning show and sending up prayers for other families in the area. I must have finally passed out about 3:00 a.m.
