The day after Thanksgiving is a huge shopping day in all areas of the United States of America. The Thanksgiving papers will be full of sales, coupons, and door busters. Saturday, the news will be full of fights and reports of shopping violence at Wal-Mart, Target, and malls all across the nation.
I have participated in this chaos once or twice, mainly during my pre-children days. The fuss of waking up early, finding a sitter, and fighting the crowds make the sales seem less than appealing to me now. I usually find that the same deals are offered closer to Christmas and I do not have to get out bed near as early. It is amazing how many times the stores can have those one time only biggest sales of the season.
It amazed me on the few times that I did go shopping after Thanksgiving how many men we were out with their wives (or appeared to be wives). Some of the men were in line while others were standing back and waiting and watching the crowds.
My husband would never dream of getting up to shopping in that crowd. He can wake up early to go hunting or to the gym but shopping is a different story. Even if he had an item that he wanted, he would try to send me to get it before he would go himself.
If he did offer to go, I am not sure that I would be so thrilled. Each time that we have gone major shopping together I have felt rushed and pressured into buying at one store rather than checking out all of the options as I normally do.
So how many of you have husbands that will battle the after Thanksgiving sales with you? Will they stand in line and wait with you in the long checkout lines or hang back and wait while you shop?
