William and Catherine Get Married

This morning was the royal wedding – the big event that some estimated was seen by over 2 billion people around the world. Good thing Kate, or Catherine as she has asked to be called now, doesn’t have to send everyone Thank You cards.

The day went off without a hitch for the new Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. The couple were given that title right before the wedding this morning. But, that wasn’t the only title they got. They also became the Earl and Countess of Strathearn and the Baron and Baroness of Carrickfergus.

It was grey skies in London, but that didn’t stop thousands from gathering inside and outside Westminster Abbey were the couple wed as well as more in Trafalgar Square and other places around the city. Some fans camped out for days before the event to get a primo spot.

Unlike the report from the Huffington Post, Kate’s dress was designed by Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen. The gown was intricate, but to me, it was much simpler than that of Diana’s almost 30 years ago. The tiara was borrowed from the Queen. At one point, it looked like William told his bride “you look beautiful” and that she did.

There was no hitches like when Diana got Charles’ names in the wrong order, but it did appear to me that William had a little bit of a hard time getting Kate’s ring on her finger. Fortunately she didn’t have the same problem but that is because William won’t wear a ring. Unlike that anyone in the world won’t know he’s married even without it.

The Beckhams were there as were Sir Elton John and his partner. Guy Ritchie also was in attendance, but I think my favorite was Rowan Atkinson, the British comedian better known in the U.S. as Mr. Bean. Who knew Mr. Bean and Prince Charles were close friends?

As with Charles and Diana, the couple rode through the streets to Buckingham Palace where they finally got to exchange their first public kiss as man and wife as the crowd shouted “Kiss! Kiss! Kiss!”
