Win a Year’s Worth of Groceries from Hungry Jack

pancakes What do you do with that last little bit of batter, syrup, or potatoes that are left in the box of mix? Hungry Jack is having a “Use Up the Box” recipe contest. You could win one year’s worth of groceries, or a gift basket of Hungry Jack brand products.

Have you ever had this kind of problem before? You have a little bit of pancake mix left over, but your family has grown tired of having pancakes for breakfast every morning. The amount of syrup left in the bottle isn’t enough for your entire family to use on their waffles, but it is too much for you to feel good about just throwing away. There is a partially empty box of mashed potatoes in your kitchen, but you can’t think of a good way to use it up.

Hungry Jack is having a “Use Up the Box” recipe contest. The contest actually started in August of 2011, but I just found out about it today. The contest will end on November 2, 2011. This still gives you plenty of time to enter.

Create an original recipe using one of the following Hungry Jack products: Pancake and Waffle Mix, (including Potato Pancake Mix) (one cup dry mix), Microwaveable Syrup (one fourth of a cup), Instant Mashed Potatoes (one cup dry or one cup prepared), Hashbrown Potatoes (one carton), or Casserole Potatoes (one box).

Your recipe can be entered into only one of the several categories that this contest has. Those categories are: Brunch, Comfort Food, Appetizers, or Sweet Treats. Pick just one.

Your recipe must be written in English. You must list all the ingredients in “exact common U.S. household measurements” in order of use, with step-by-step preparation instructions, cooking times, and number of servings.

The name of your recipe cannot include any person’s name, any brand name (including the Hungry Jack brand). I would suggest reading the official rules in order to get each and every detail about what you can, and cannot, include in your recipe. Your recipe cannot contain alcohol.

All the recipes will be judged by a panel of judges. They will consider criteria like: taste, creativity, ease of preparation, and visual appeal. There is a detailed point system that will be used to help determine who the winners are.

There will be one Grand Prize Winner for each of the four categories. Each Grand Prize Winner will receive “One Year’s Worth of Groceries”. This will be awarded in the form of a check for $6,000. There will be two Runner Up Winners for each of the four categories. Each Runner Up Winner will get one Gift Basket of Hungry Jack brand products.

This contest is only open to people who are amateur home cooks, (who are at least eighteen years old). If you are attending, have attended, or have graduated from an accredited culinary program, you cannot entire this contest. If you are employed as a “food professional”, such as a chef, food writer, food editor, or food economist (whatever that is), then you cannot enter this contest, either.
