Winter Adventure Travel Packages—-Quebec

This next travel package is reserved for those very special people on your holiday gift list. It’s a bit pricey, but well worth the expense considering everything your loved one will be getting. Just make sure he or she doesn’t mind the snow and cold.

As I continue my ongoing series of blogs spotlighting various tours for winter sports enthusiasts, today I’m focusing on Quebec, Canada. Specifically, Carnaval de Québec, the biggest winter carnival in the world. For 17 days each February residents and visitors to Canada’s largest province (land wise) don their warmest jackets and boots and head out into the streets of Old Quebec to eat, drink and make merry.

For about $2,500 you can reserve a place on the Country Walkers’ “Quebec: Winter Carnaval Snowshoe Adventure.” The high-end, 5-night trip puts you right in the middle of the action during this citywide celebration and provides transportation to the surrounding hills, where you’ll find ideal conditions for winter sports like snowshoeing and skiing.

The trip starts with you checking into the luxurious, fairy tale castle shaped Le Château Frontenac, which is set in Quebec’s historic center and is within easy walking distance of most Carnaval attractions. The first three nights your group will spilt time between the Carnaval and participating in outdoor activities like snowshoeing and dog sledding in nearby parks. On the fourth day the group departs Quebec City for Le Manoir Richelieu, located above the St. Lawrence River in La Malbaie, Quebec. From there, you’ll head out for snowshoeing trips in Parc Regional du Mont Grand-Fonds and Cap-Tourmente National Wildlife Area. If you want to take a break from the physical activity you can just relax in the hotel spa.

Trip dates are February 9 and 16, 2008. The $2,500 fee includes luxury accommodations, ground transportation, most meals, travel guides, snowshoeing equipment, and admission to activities and sightseeing spots. However, it does not cover the cost of transportation to Quebec City. You can fly into the Quebec City airport or drive; the city is about 400 miles from Boston.
