As a mom who liked to travel when my child was young, it was often difficult. I had already been through the earlier years when my child was a baby and it was the three of us. That was hard enough, but at least there was another set of adult hands to help out. After it became just the two of us, my child and I, there was a new set of worries.
Traveling with my child alone was a frightening concept to me. I had the fear that if something happened to me while we were traveling who would be there for my son. I had a horrible picture in my head of him wandering around aimlessly and being scared to death. That was bad enough, but since my mind tends to work overtime an even worse fear was that someone would kidnap him. I know, I know, I think too much. These ideas did not forego making plans to travel, however. My solution was to bring another adult or semi-adult (a teenager) with us. This plan did ease my fears for the most part and it worked out well.
After I got through that dilemma and how to solve it plans needed to be made. I did not rely on the internet at that time as I was not too computer friendly. Recently though, while surfing the net, I came across a wonderful website that I only wish I had known about earlier. At http://www.singleparenttravel.net/ they feature numerous helpful hints and strategies regarding traveling as a single parent with or without children. Not only does this website touch on many aspects of traveling in this mode, but they also have general single parenting information. Single Parent Travel was started by a single mom in 1983. This mom loved to travel and she longed to share her know how with others who shared the same love as she did. This is not a website just for moms either. Dads are contributing their experiences and knowledge as well.
If you are an adventurer at heart and love to travel, stop by and check out this site!
