Working over the Weekend

When you work from home, it’s hard to “clock out” as Kori blogged about earlier this week. Work is always there. So when the weekend comes, sometimes it’s hard to escape.

For me, writing can actually be relaxing. However, I also need to make sure that I put work away and be part of the family. The best way for me to “take time off” is to get out of the house.

For my birthday, my husband bought me a laptop. So right now I am sitting on the couch watching cartoons with my children. This is what they want to do. Yes, I’m spending time with them, but it is so hard to not be on the computer. With someone’s great idea of wireless internet and my laptop, work is always nagging at me.

However, there are things that I will not do on the weekends, well Sunday’s to be exact. I actually find that Saturday can be a great and productive day. Many people are home, so when I need to call hostesses and customers, I can often get a hold of them.

I also find that Saturdays are a popular day for parties. However, I always cross off at least one or 2 Saturdays a month because I want to be able to hang out with my family. Many consultants will pick one Saturday to work and do three parties on that day, one at 10 am, 1 pm and 4 pm. This works well if you are traveling more then 30 minutes to do a show.

I won’t do parties on Sundays anymore however, and I only make calls in the evening after dinner. I guess I can not say I don’t work because I teach Midrasha (Sunday school). However, I do make more of an effort to make sure I have a good chunk of time where we do family activities, preferably outside the house so my computer isn’t whispering to me.

So even though weekends are a great time to work, they are also a great time to spend some quality family time. Bowling anyone?
